THE OUTER PANELS OF HEIRONYMUS BOSCH
Until today I never thought about or saw the exterior doors of Hierronymous Bosch's late 16th century "Garden of Earthly Delights" (whose inner panels depict a earthy, lust-filled chaos). Those panels folded-in show a less exciting, more peaceful orb, but oh! the inside is wild! Would that we find the peace on earth and in ourselves in which our wild nature nonetheless honors the divinity of Mother Earth and each inhabitant.
"The outer panels are generally thought to depict the creation of the world, showing greenery beginning to clothe the still-pristine Earth. God, wearing a crown similar to a papal tiara (a common convention in Netherlandish painting), is visible as a tiny figure at the upper left."
